Vassen Butterfly Pink Circle Lens Review

Press Sample

I love circle lenses, the way they enlarge my eyes and being able to change up my eye colour whenever I want to. Having Butterfly Pink eyes sounds so darn magical, so when I was contacted by Maple Lens to try a couple of their circle lenses I was immediately drawn to the Vassen Butterfly Pink lens. I have another pair of pink circle lens and I absolutely ADORE them, so I decided to try these out.

Maple Lens is a circle lens store based in Malaysia and provides genuine Korean circle lenses. Shipping was pretty fast, within 5 days, and they came very nicely and securely packaged, with a pink box for storage while unopened and animal lens cases for once you open them. I was very impressed with everything they included and the way the glass bottles the lenses were safe and secure.

From the Maple Lens website:

Vassen Butterfly Pink

Price: $21.95
Diameter : 14.5mm
Water Content : 42%
Base Curve : 8.6mm
Life Span : 1 Year Disposal

The Butterfly Pink lenses have a thick black limbal ring and pink to gold pattern that looks almost like a butterfly wing. The colour does not blend into my natural eye colour like some of my other lenses, but contrasts rather strikingly.

I did a quick little video just to show you how the lenses come and how to open them, what the actual lens looks like and how they look on.

The lenses were quite comfortable, although I did apply eyedrops when I first put them in just in case. They are very vibrant and have a distinct pattern in natural indoor light and daylight as well as artificial light, so they are definitely more for people who like bright and colourful lenses that are noticeable as opposed to a more natural look. The lenses have a decent enlarging effect as well and give me that pretty dolly eye appearance. I wore them for 5+ hours and they felt pretty comfortable, but I think if I wore them any longer I'd have to reapply eyedrops so they won't dry out my eyes.

I think I'd prefer wearing these for special occasions, photoshoots or cosplay rather than on a day to day basis as they have such a distinct look. I would order from Maple Lens again, as they had good customer service, fast shipping and very good, secure packaging. They have a nice variety of circle lenses on the website and a good size clearance section with discounted older style lenses.

Beauty Box 5 May Subscription Box Review

Press Sample

This month's box was full of skincare goodies which normally I'm not a huge fan of, but my skin is sorely in need of some pampering at the moment! It's hot, dry and windy in SoCal, a veritable disaster for my skin.

There were two full size products, the eyeliner and the sheet mask, which means the value of the box even without the other samples is $26. I like and use retractable eyeliner often, so this CATTIVA liner is a win for me. I like sheet masks as they're easy to use and they're cooling and very hydrating. I'm looking forward to trying this new brand MaskerAide and will most likely use it while I'm having a nice long bath. The Ban cooling body cloths and H2O Plus cleansing gel will definitely come in handy in the insane heat we'll be getting from now, well into the summer. Now, I am very picky when it comes to perfume, it has to be just the right kind of scent otherwise I find it cloying and overpowering. This Harvey Prince one called Hello is light, fruity, floral and GORGEOUS. I absolutely love it and would definitely purchase a full sized bottle, in fact I'm trying to think of what holiday or anniversary is coming up so I can ask my husband for it as a gift! It has just the right notes and level of scent for me.

Overall I'm happy with this box and I'm excited to try all the products :)

5 Mother's Day Gifts Under $20

Mother's Day is a week from now and I'm sure there are a few of you out there that want to get something nice for your mother/mother of your children/grandmother/sister etc, but also need to stay on budget. Typical bath sets and flowers can feel a bit generic, so I've found 5 lovely gifts that, at under $20, won't break the bank. There's something for any beauty or fashion loving lady that will last much longer than a one time use item, or one pampering session.

1. NYX Bohemian Chic – Nude Matte Collection $18.00
Get the Bohemian look just in time for festival season using the BohémeChic palette! This kit is an absolute staple to have in your makeup collection, it includes 24 soft matte eye shadows in a wide variety of neutral tones, 2 blushes, and 2 duo ended eye shadow applicators. This neutral palette is perfect for anyone that loves makeup, with the ability to create many different looks, from glam to natural.

2. Forever 21 Subtle Thing Crossbody $16.80
I have an obsession for crossbody purses, especially in the warmer months. This faux leather crossbody has a faux leather shoulder strap, fold-over top with push-in lock closure, interior zip and patch pockets, high polish hardware and a cute full polka dot lining. It's lightweight enough to take to the beach and sophisticated enough to take on a night out.

3. Lush Strawberries and Cream Gift Box $16.95
Yes it's a body/bath set, but this yummy gift box is anything but typical. The Strawberries and Cream set includes the Strawberry Feels Forever Massage Bar and the Sympathy for the Skin hand and body lotion. The dreamy Strawberry Feels Forever Massage Bar moisturizes while you massage and will leave you smelling divinely good. And for soft, touchable, vanilla-strawberry 'smells-almost-good-enough-to-eat' skin, the Sympathy for the Skin hand and body lotion is to die for.

A pretty manicure is the perfect way to pamper, and a DIY kit can be enjoyed more than once. This kit to celebrate and appreciate your special lady includes 1 For You Mini Polish and 1 Light Blue Glitter Pot.

I have this Jumbo 3 Barrel Waver, and it is one of the best hair purchases I've made since I bought my GHD flat iron! The triple baked Tourmaline Ceramic Barrels seal the cuticle and extend the life of the waves while reducing frizz and keeping your hair smooth and soft. There are 30 different heat settings up to 420° F, so whether you have fine or thick hair, it's easy to create gorgeous mermaid-like waves.

Whatever her preference, there are a bevy of gifts out there that can be both thoughtful and good value. I definitely wouldn't mind receiving something on the list and for under $20 you could even pick up 2 or 3 for the lady (or ladies) in your life.

Have a great Sunday!

Wet n Wild Color Icon Glitter Single in Bleached

I Bought This

To finish out my Wet n Wild week, I have a gorgeous little glitter single for you. I don't usually buy eyeshadow singles, nor do I usually buy glitter eyeshadow... but when this gem caught my eye, I just had to have it. Opalescent glitter is one of my (many) weaknesses and although I don't wear it on a daily basis, I think this would be a beautiful accent for special event makeup looks.

I bought this Glitter Single at Walgreens for .99c and it's a creme eyeshadow, so the glitter does not have any fallout. It felt a bit gritty at first when I was swatching it, but a few swipes wand it felt quite creamy and smooth. It has coconut oil and aloe in it.....  o_o  yes, a .99c eyeshadow. The glitter can be built up and looks absolutely dazzling in the light. I can't wait to try this out in a few different looks.

I applied it with my finger and quite a bit of the glitter stuck on my fingertip, so maybe it would be better applied with a brush and dabbed on. Once it was on, it stayed on well! I don't think I'll have to worry about glitter getting all over my face when I'm wearing this.

Do you do glitter on your eyes, or is it too much for you?

Wet n Wild Vicious Varnish High Shine Lip Stain in Legendary Face

I Bought This

There's something so fresh and pretty about nude lips, especially nude gloss for Spring/Summer. I have been searching fruitlessly for a pretty nude pink shade that doesn't wash me out or settle into the lines on my lips, and I think I may have finally found it. I bought the Wet n Wild Vicious Varnish High Shine Lip Stain at Walgreens for $3.49 and it may just be the best purchase I've made this year.

The applicator has a flat paddle tip, much like the Fergie Megalast Liquid Lip Color and like them are also intended to stain the lips. Unlike the Megalast Liquid Lip Color (which dry to a matte finish) these are a very shiny gloss. I am in love with the colour of Legendary Face, it is just the perfect nude pink for me! I have struggled with finding a good nude pink for my skintone, but this has enough of a pinky beige element to work. It feels smooth and slightly sticky and stays on for at least 3 hours without budging. The stain wasn't so noticeable to me, but that might be because it's a nude shade. I think I need to buy 5 of these as backups because I will be wearing it A LOT!

Legendary Face is sooo soft and pretty, PERFECT for a natural look, or for when you want to do something crazy dramatic with your eyes. This is one of those staple makeup products that you always have in your purse and I love, love, love it.
