White and Neon Nails with Born Pretty Neon Nail Studs

Press Sample I Bought This

I love the look of neon for Summer. It looks so bright, fresh and fun, perfect for the beach or a Summer pool party! One of my favourite combinations is white and neon nail art, every time I have this colour combo on I can't stop staring at my nails it's THAT gorgeous and eye-catching. I was lucky enough to get to try out these neon nail studs from Born Pretty, so I decided to try them on a white base. The white gives a clean backdrop for the neon to really pop and looks amazing against tanned Summer skin (do you think I said 'Summer' enough yet?).

The nail studs come in 6 different eye-popping colours and 2 shapes, circles and stars. I really love the look of these and will definitely be using them a lot this Summer! They are slightly raised, but sit flat on the nail and are perfectly sealed with one coat of top coat. They stayed put for 5 days until I got twitchy and picked them off =_=;; I have that problem with anything that isn't completely smooth on my nails. One thing I did notice is if I didn't do a thick coat of top coat, the nail stud's color scraped off a little if I knocked it against something. On one of my nails I hadn't done a very thick coat, so it got a little scrape on the stud which showed through silver. The other studs on the rest of my nails were perfectly fine though.

For this manicure I did 3 coats of Sinful Colors Snow Me White on all nails except my ring finger, which had 3 coats of ORLY Mayhem Mentality. I then used Kiss Nail Art Paint Beach Purple to paint the triangle on my ring finger and topped it all off with the Born Pretty studs. I did a thick coat of top coat and was done! This is one of my favourite manis to date, and SO bright that even my dad noticed my nails when we were Skyping. I think I'll be using the white/neon combo a lot throughout Summer and possibly even into Fall if I can get away with it :p

TJ Maxx Nail Polish Haul

I Bought This

In a nail polish Facebook group I belong to, the ladies are always posting pictures of gorgeous polishes they find at TJ Maxx. I recently discovered one near me, so I decided to try my luck and go hunting for polish bargains.

Happily, I found a little section with some very inexpensive pretties! The OPIs were$7.99 for a set of two liquid sands and $3.99 for the individual polishes. The ORLY FX was $3.99 and the NOPIs were $2.99 each.

L-R: OPI Get Your Number, OPI Can't Let Go, OPI Solitare, OPI Pussy Galore

L-R: OPI Yodel Me On My Cell, OPI Gouda Gouda Two Shoes, ORLY FX Fight On, NOPI You're An Angel, NOPI She's Lily Something

The liquid sands are my first texture polishes and I'm excited to try them out! I already used Can't Let Go for a pedicure and it is amazing. I want to do a mani with Solitare and Pussy Galore next, so hopefully they work out well together.

Have you found any polish at your TJ Maxx? I'm on the hunt for some SpaRitual polishes. Any recommendations on places to find cheap polish?

Beauty Box 5 June Subscription Box Review

Press Sample

This month's Beauty Box 5 was a little disappointing. Usually, the one full sized item is valued at the price or more than the price of the box, but this month it wasn't. The full sized nail polish from Nicka K is valued at $4.99, less than half of the subscription price. That being said, maybe they thought that because the other samples are from expensive products it made up the value. The mascara and the products in the Eslor skincare line are all in the $28-$65 range.

I swatched the Nicka K polish, which was labeled as 'NY139' and it went on beautifully, smooth and opaque in 2 easy coats. One thing to note, although it says formaldehyde free it does contain formaldehyde resin. This shade stained a little bit around my cuticles when I was taking it off, so next time I'll be more careful with removal.

The body wash smells absolutely divine! I want to eat it, it smells so good. I haven't tried the mascara or skincare samples yet, but I'm keeping the mascara in my purse for those times when I'm in a rush and forget to apply it at home. That's one of the handy things about mascara samples, they're great for travel or when you're on the go.

Overall I like the polish and I'm excited to try the more high end samples, but I do feel it wasn't as great value as the box usually is. I've been very happy with the boxes so far though, so I'm hoping next month's box is back to par.

Pure Ice Jaguar: Gold Heart French Accent Nails

I Bought This

Ever had one of those days where you have no idea what to do with your nails? I always have days like that and I sit and rack my brains for ages and then just end up doing something super simple. This time I decided to do a simple gold with two heart accent nails. Pure Ice Jaguar is a pretty gold metallic nail polish with tiny silver glitter in it. Jaguar is a little brushstroke-y but it's nice enough for me to overlook that.

I like the look of the gold hearts against the 'negative space' as they call it. It looks classic and clean and next time I might try it with red :)

Zoya Gemma + Zoya Chloe: Gorgeous Green Layering.

I Bought This

I haven't used Zoya Gemma much since I bought it about 3 years ago, despite it being such a beautiful shade. It's a gorgeous dusty green, with a subtle blue/pink shimmer that's more obvious in the bottle than on the nail. It reminds me of water lilies and morning dew (excuse me while I wax poetic) and although I'm not a huge green polish fan, this one is just perfection.

For this mani I did 3 thin coats of Zoya Gemma, then because the shimmer wasn't as evident on my nails I decided to jazz it up a bit using one coat of Zoya Chloe which is a flakie topcoat. Both polishes have a wonderfully smooth formula and applied like a dream.

I am absolutely enamoured with how this turned out, it's not your typical girly pink but it's still soft and pretty. I'll definitely be using Gemma more often!
