DIY Prom/Formal 2012 hair trends & Giveaway from LifeSpa (Now Closed)

Beauty DIY!

Hey Beauties!

With prom around the corner, Summer weddings and many other formal events, I’m sure plenty of you are looking for advice for how you or your daughters/sisters/nieces etc should do your hair while still staying on budget.

Today I have a few of the hottest prom/formal hair trends for 2012 from stylists at LifeSpa that are super easy to replicate at home.

The Double Braid

How-to:
  • These braids are a twist on the classic French braid and are actually called inside out French braids
  • Start with three sections of hair at the hairline and instead of braiding over, braid from underneath starting with the backmost length
  • Incorporate hair closest to the hairline braiding back towards the ear
  • Secure the braid with a bobby pin
  • Gather three sections of adjacent hair and repeat
  • Once braids are secure, pull hair back into a bun
  • Accessorize with a clip-in flower, feathers or a hair clip

Messy Side Bun

How-to:
  • Pull hair into a low side bun and secure with an elastic
  • Take the ponytail and gather hair into a ball in your hands
  • Secure using an elastic and wrapping it a few times
  • Pull hair at the roots to add some volume

Flawless Ballerina Bun

How-to:
  • Secure hair in a high ponytail
  • Tease the ponytail to add volume
  • Twist hair clockwise into a tight bun, leaving about an inch of hair out at the bottom
  • Secure bun with large bobby pins
  • Wrap remaining hair around once and pin it or leave it out for a messier look

Manicure Monday: Essie Eternal Optimist & Spoiled by Wet n Wild Shrimp on the Barbie

Hello Beauties!

Today I want to show you two of my favourite polishes, one of which is a gorgeous shade by Wet n Wild. They have recently released the ‘Spoiled’ collection and this is my favourite, Shrimp on the Barbie. Love the polish, hate the name. As an Australian, I find it offensive (lolol). Stupid Crocodile Dundee, we don’t even call prawns ‘shrimp’! Anyway, the polish actually reminds me more of salmon, it’s a gorgeous salmon pink with a gold shimmer. The other polish is Essie Eternal Optimist, a beautiful nude rose pink I’ve had for a while, which is such a perfect Spring colour.

Two coats of Essie Eternal Optimist and one coat of Spoiled by Wet n Wild Shrimp on the Barbie on ring finger.

The colour in the bottle is exactly how it looks on the nail, with that lovely golden shimmer.

Indirect sunlight – this is probably the most colour accurate for both polishes.

It was difficult to capture the gold shimmer with my camera, but it’s so prevalent on the nail, even indoors.. It looks GORGEOUS in sunlight!

I like a few of the other shades in the Spoiled by Wet n Wild collection, but Shrimp on the Barbie is my absolute favourite and in my opinion, a must-have.

Have you picked up any of the Spoiled by Wet n Wild polishes?
