Review: tokidoki Gelato Lip Balm Stain in Pink Martini

Hey Beauties!

Firstly I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has entered the giveaway! It's so exciting for me :) I love reading all your comments and am looking forward to drawing the winner on the 13th!

Anyway, onto the review!

tokidoki’s Gelato Lip Balm Stain is a beautifully packaged lip balm/lip gloss/lip stain hybrid that I am absolutely in love with!

From Sephora.com:

What it is:
A lip balm with moisturizing and staining properties.

What it does:
Keep your lips hydrated with any of these fun balms inspired by the tokidoki family of characters. Each features its own special flavor. The Ciao Ciao balm is invisible while the other three are perfect for those days when you want to moisturize your lips while adding just a hint of color.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
- Parabens

This collection includes four balms:
- Pink Martini: Pink with cherry flavor
- Donutella: Peach with melon flavor
- Skeletrina: Purple with grape flavor
- Ciao Ciao: No color with mint flavor

Size: 0.15 oz

When it comes to lip products, I have a few criteria which must be met otherwise I am not a happy camper. This Gelato Lip Balm pretty much meets all of them, except it’s only average in the staining department. It’ll last maybe 6 hours but doesn’t really stain your lips much, only a very, very light stain of colour once it wears off. (BTW this product is transferable and will not last through a meal).

Pink Martini is a juicy bright pink that looks like a shocking hot pink in the tube, but goes on sheer and can be layered for a brighter pop of colour. It is soft and almost gel-like, a consistency between that of a balm and a gloss, gliding on smoothly and definitely feels moisturising. It doesn’t sink into fine lines and make my lips look like an 80 year old smoker’s (yay!). The texture feels nice on, not too sticky and not like an oil slick on your lips either. I’m not much of lipstick wearer, I prefer lip balms and glosses, so this is a really good product for when I want a pop of colour.

The scent is supposed to be cherry, but I HATE fake cherry flavoured stuff and this is divine. It smells more like fake watermelon flavour (which I love). Any Aussies in the house? It smells like a watermelon chupa chup. It tastes sweet and faintly of the watermelon flavour, but I don’t make it a habit to lick my lip products and I don’t suggest you do either ;)

I love this product and have been using it ALL the time, I really want to get Donutella as well. I think at $9 these are a great price for a phenomenal product. I haven’t really seen anything else on the market that’s in the same vein as the Gelato Lip Balms.

Pros:
  • Glossy
  • Long wearing
  • Moisturising
  • Gorgeous pigmented colour
Cons:
  • Not really a lip stain
  • Very soft, you have to be careful using it or you might damage it
Timesaver: YES. This is an all in one, balm, gloss, and very pigmented colour.
Moneysaver: Yes, I think it’s great value at $9
WANT/NEED/NO THANKS?
For me, this is a NEED. I think I’ve found my new HG lip balm/colour/gloss (well you get the picture…)

Here are some more pictures of the packaging.. just because it’s so cute.

Have you tried any tokidoki stuff? Are you a lip balm/gloss girl or do you prefer lipstick?
