Girls Night!: Michelob ULTRA Light Cider & my FOTD

Good morning Beauties :)

So last Memorial Day weekend we had a girls night at our friend Rosie's house. We're in a Mom's group together, so we see each other for playdates with the kids, but we try to regularly get together for a girl's night to let off steam and relax.

(My FOTD is at the end of the post!)

We had lots of yummy snacks!

It was a perfect opportunity to try out the new Michelob ULTRA Light Cider, which I had for review.

My lovely friend Christina told me "Move it down so we can see your boobs!" Advertising? :p

This is the first cider Anheuser-Busch has produced and distributed in the US, however they have a few different beer products already available here.

From Anheuser-Busch:

“As more people continue to discover cider, we've found that many view traditional ciders as either too heavy, too sweet or both," said Ryan Moore, vice president of premium lights, Anheuser-Busch.  "This perception has often times limited ciders to a seasonal beverage during fall and winter, but we saw an untapped potential to expand the category as a year-round option.  Michelob ULTRA Light Cider fills this void with a lower calorie cider with a milder, but distinct, sweetness that can be enjoyed straight or over ice."
The brewing process for cider follows that of beer, with the main difference being the ingredients used: cider uses apples, while barley and hops are generally the main ingredients for beer. Michelob ULTRA Light Cider is made with all-natural ingredients, including apples, and is naturally sweetened with stevia.

The taste is what you'd expect from a cider, crisp, light and refreshing, but it's less sweet than traditional ciders because it has less calories. It's a more mellowed sweetness than traditional ciders* and I love the fact that it's naturally sweetened AND gluten-free. I quite like alcoholic ciders, but because they're so sweet all the sugar can leave me with a headache (which is the closest I ever really get to a hangover!). You can drink it straight from the bottle or in a glass with ice, it tastes really good ICE COLD (great for Summer pool parties). You could probably warm it as well, like normal apple cider and drink it in the autumn and Winter as well. Alcoholic mulled cider? Overall, I think it's a really refreshing lower-calorie alternative to white wine, champagne and heavier ciders.

Michelob ULTRA Light cider has been available nationwide (excluding CO, UT, WY and OK) from May 7, 2012, and is available in six-packs of 12-ounce clear glass bottles.

You can check out Michelob on the web here: Michelob ULTRA Light Cider page on BlogHer.com and at the Sponsor’s site.

*Michelob ULTRA Light Cider has 1/3 less calories than an average of the leading regular hard ciders, 120 cal./serving in light hard cider vs. 180 cal./serving in an average of the leading hard ciders.

Lastly, my Face of the Day.
