Review: Urban Decay Afterglow Powder Blush in Quickie & Memorial Day FOTD

Happy June 1st Beauties!

I can’t believe it’s already the 6th month of the year.. it seems like this first half of 2011 has just flown by. I know I promised to post this yesterday, but yesterday ended up being one of those days where the kids were so out of sorts, I couldn’t leave them alone for one minute or risk a screaming/crying fit… From BOTH of them. I think the busy weekend and deviation from their regular sleep schedule got them feeling a bit run down. They ended up going to bed super early last night and are feeling MUCH better today (thank goodness!).

Today I’m reviewing the Afterglow Powder Blush I bought from HauteLook for $5.

From the Urban Decay website:
Housed in a petite compact, this blush can be perfectly paired with your dressy pearls or worn alone to recreate summer's glow.
Delicate, fresh... Introducing Urban Decay's first-ever powder blush... appropriately named Afterglow. Small enough to fit in your clutch, this blush can be perfectly paired with your dressy pearls or worn alone to recreate summer's glow. Bronzed pinks and hints of gold are here for the taking. Available in several colors to enhance a wide range of complexions

Made with Chamomile -- Nature's best, with these properties:

Fill Weight: 4.0g / 0.15 oz

$17.00
Ingredients: Talc, Tricaprylin, Zinc Stearate, Lauroyl Lysine, Boron Nitride, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Potassium Sorbate, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben
May Contain: Mica, CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499 (Iron Oxides), CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 75470 (Carmine), CI 77742 (Manganese Violet), CI 77163 (Bismuth Oxychloride), CI 15850 (Red 6 Lake), CI 18580 (Red 7 Lake), CI 73360 (Red 30), CI 77007 (Ultramarines).

Now, the description says 4.0g/0.15oz but mine is 3.8g/0.13oz. I’m not sure what that’s about… maybe they changed the size? It’s pretty small as blushes go and I don’t think I would’ve paid full price for it. I would just look at it and go “$17 for this tiny thing??”. It’s cute though, small things are always cute. It’s pretty nicely pigmented too, so I think it’ll last a while as I’m usually not very heavy handed with the blush.

This pic above isn’t very colour accurate. It’s a much lighter, pinker shade.

This is much closer to the actual shade and you can see how small it is in my hand.

It’s got a little shimmer running through it so it looks nice and glowy on the skin. It’s a gorgeous soft pink, perfect for that sweet, flushed pink apples of your cheeks look. I get why they call it afterglow ;) As it’s a ‘bronzed pink’ it’s on the warm side and much better suited to my skintone than cooler pinks. I’m pretty ecstatic about that since it’s difficult to find a soft or ‘baby’ pink that isn’t cool but isn’t coral either. I’ve seen some swatches of the Afterglow Cheek Tint in Quickie and it looks a lot cooler toned and more ‘candy pink’. I much prefer this shade!

It went on smoothly and blended beautifully into the skin. I have combination skin and it didn’t feel dry or cakey at all. It’s a good formula, not too soft or hard so it blends nicely but doesn’t have any fallout. I wore it all day on Sunday and it held up pretty well. There was a bit of fading by around 12 am (when we got home), but since I’m not usually out that late I’ll let it slide.

Overall
Pros:
  • Pigmented
  • Smooth and blendable
  • Gorgeous shade and subtle shimmer
  • Looks like pretty, flushed natural cheeks
  • Long wearing
Cons:
  • Small size
Timesaver/Moneysaver?
As I bought this on HauteLook for $5, it is a definite MONEYSAVER.

Want/Need/No Thanks?
This is a NEED, since I don’t have any baby pinks that suit me as well as this one does!

Feeling summery, breaking out the dresses!

Face:
  • Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream in No. 31
  • Urban Decay Afterglow Powder Blush in Quickie
Eyes:
  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Chopper on lid and lower lashline
  • Urban Decay eyeshadow in Maui Wowie on inner corner
  • LORAC Lashes Volumizing and Thickening Mascara in Brown
Lips:
  • femme couture Super Juicies Sheer lip gloss in Light Pink

I used a very minimal amount of products, because it was hot and I wanted a light, fresh, summery look. I really need to fix up my brows! I’ve been slacking on that for a week now, got to get it done! I watched a great brow tutorial on From Head To Toe so I’m hoping mine will turn out as good as hers. We asians tend to have some finicky brows, mine seriously grow in all different directions!! Brow gel, you are my lifesaver.

I hope you guys all had a great long weekend (in the US anyway)!

  2. You might not want to bring along Uncle Jack who only
showers once a week, but there is certainly enough room not
to feel claustrophobic. Before any trip to a car dealership, you need to do some research
to figure out what type of car you need. The cargo area
includes a cover, side storage compartments, (which come in handy for items such as dirty shoes), and a
    cargo net.
